Walnut Pita

I found this recipe in a collection of family recipe's that were handed down to mom from my Great Aunt Shirley. It is dated 1953.

Ingredients
  

Pita Ingredients
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • Pinch Salt
  • 1/2 lb Butter or Oleo
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/4 pint Sour Cream
Filling Ingredients
  • 6 Egg Yolks
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 lb Walnuts Ground
  • 7 Egg Whites

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Pan 9 x 12
  • 1 Rolling Pin

Method
 

Pita Instructions
  1. Mix all ingredients as for pie dough.  Divide into two pieces.  Roll each piece large enough to line 9x12 pan.  Line bottom of pan with one rolled dough; add filling and place other rolled dough on top.  Bake for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees or until golden brown.
Filling Instructions
  1. Beat egg yolks and sugar, add walnuts; fold in egg white beaten stiff.
